For many years, critical care echocardiography education in the Asian regions has been ignored. Many young doctors in these countries either do not have the opportunity to learn critical care echo or are unable to afford for the courses overseas (most were run in western countries). In view of this need, NICCER has been offering critical care echo courses in some of these countries either free-of-charge or at a low cost for many years.

2025 is a important year for the region as NICCER, for the first time, invited world class experts to the region to share their knowledge, expertise and experience with the critical care echo enthusiasts in two advanced courses: one in Singapore and another in Hong Kong. Younger generation critical care physicians who want to pursue a higher critical care echo qualifications (e.g. European Diploma in Advanced Critical Care Echocardiography or EDEC) also attended the advanced courses.

The Singapore Advanced Critical Care Echo (SACCE) attracted numerous doctors from around the region, including doctors from Vietnam, Malaysia, and Indonesia. The feedbacks received were extremely positively and encouraging. Nearly all participants find the courses very useful and stimulating.

We realised one thing in these courses: No one takes things for granted. We cannot provide everything, but we can provide opportunities.

“A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.” — Winston S. Churchill

After Singapore and Hong Kong, the faculty also visited Shenzhen Nan Shan Medical University Hospital (China) and taught critical care echo to the intensivists.
