RACE (Rapid Assessment by Cardiac Echo) is a transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) course specifically designed for the critical care and acute care physicians.  Its objective is to equip physicians in these areas with the skills and knowledge to perform focused bedside TTE so that common cardiac and haemodynamic disorders can be identified quickly.  RACE is suitable for physicians with little or no prior knowledge of TTE, and there is a strong focus on HANDS-ON practice in this course.

Course content

✓Left heart function

✓Right heart function

✓Pericardial effusion and cardiac tamponade

✓Intravascular volume (fluid status) assessment

 

RACEplus is an extended course of RACE.  The content of RACEplus:

♦ Day 1: RACE workshop

♦ Day 2: Intermediate (the plus) module that includes

✓Lung ultrasound

✓Echo in hypotensive patients

✓Focused assessment and feedback from instructors

✓Case interpretation workshop

Accreditations and CME points

This RACEplus is supported by Macau Society of Emergency and Critical Care Medicine and Hong Kong College of Emergency Medicine.  RACEplus is a recognized course for mandatory training for Fellowship of CICM, and CME purpose by various colleges in Australasia & other countries, including CICM, ACEM, ANZCA, RACP, ASUM (RCE and BELS), HKCEM and HKCA.

RACEplus is recognized by ASUM for CCPU (RCE & BELS) purposes, and is approved for 12.5 ACEM CPD hours.

Note: Participants claiming ACEM CPD hours are also required to submit an ACEM Evaluation Form to the College.
