Dr Huynh Trung Trieu was trained in Medicine in Vietnam at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy (UMP) at Ho Chi Minh City (UMP). After graduation, she received a full scholarship for 3-year-resident training in infectious diseases at UMP which provided her competent skills in critical care and experience in diagnosing and managing various infectious diseases in Vietnam. In early 2010, she was also awarded a one-year scholarship from Japan International Cooperation Agency to pursue her Master of Tropical Medicine at Nagasaki University in Japan. Back to Vietnam in 2011, she was trained in pediatric intensive care and has been working at the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of the Hospital for Tropical Diseases since.  Her research interest is to improve the quality of medical care and outcomes of patients with infection, particularly dengue. She was awarded PhD from Oxford University in 2018. Her project investigated different fluid strategies in dengue shock syndrome management across seven hospitals in Asian countries and evaluates novel hemodynamic monitoring techniques, including ultrasound, bioimpedance, compensatory reserve index.   She is keen in non-invasive monitoring, especially critical care echocardiography. Next step in her research is the use point-of-care ultrasound in personalised medicine. Dr Huynh Trieu is now the vice head of Paediatric ICU at Hospital for Tropical Diseases and a post-doctoral fellow at the Oxford University Clinical Research Unit at HCMC.
